Research and planning: My Positioning Statement

My Positioning Statement

In my music magazine I will have a positioning statement which will appear on the front cover, placed under the masthead. I have chosen three different possible positioning statement:
  • The alternative edge to music
  • Dare to Dream
  • Keeping it real
To decide which strap line to use I will use social media feedback, I used this as the target audience is teenagers/young adults and stereotypically they are who use social media most. For example if my target audience was an older generation I would not use social media to get feedback and would use an other way to ask people and get feedback.

Here is the question I asked about my positioning statement, via twitter:

Here are the replies I got:

4 people chose the first option which was
'The alternate edge to music'

2 people chose the second option which was
'Dare to Dream'

4 people also chose the third option which was
'Keeping it real'

The positioning statement which I will use is the third one 'Keeping it real' as it portrays my genre but not as straight forward and simple as the first positioning statement.

'Keeping it real' portrays my genre because in other genre's such as pop, there is a certain appearance or look which suggests perfection, the typical long hair, tanned, typical look that the media (such as pop) portray as 'perfection'. Where as on the other hand, the indie genre put out that it's good to be different and you don't have to have that perfect look in which pop culture portray. And realistically not everybody can be like that, that is why my genre puts across realism and reality into media, that is why I chose that strapline.
